General

Q: How do I schedule an appointment? How far in advance should I book?
A: You can schedule an appointment by calling 888.274.8580, or by clicking here to book online. We suggest booking your tour or appointment at least 3-4 weeks in advance. However, we know that trips and special events sometimes pop up at the last minute, and we're happy to accommodate these requests whenever possible. Please note that last-minute bookings are subject to availability.

Q: Do you offer any discounts?
A: Yes! We frequently post deals and discounts on our Facebook and Twitter feeds.

Q: Do you offer gift certificates?
A: Yes. Gift certificates are available in any denomination, and can be used toward the purchase of any of the New York shopping tours or styling services offered by Seek New York LLC. You can visit this page to purchase a gift certificate online, or send us an e-mail with your gift certificate request. Gift certificates are non-refundable. Purchaser and recipient agree to our Terms and Conditions.

Q: How do I pay you?
A: We are pleased to offer secure online payment (credit card, debit card, or e-check) via PayPal. You may also call us and provide a credit card number over the phone. We accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover. Please note that all international payments must be processed via PayPal.

Q: Should I tip my stylist?
A: It's completely up to you. Tips are not required but are very much appreciated if you feel that your stylist provided exemplary service.

Q: Do you offer appointments in the evenings? What about on weekends?
A: We offer tours and appointments seven days a week. Please click here to learn more about our hours and other policies.

Q: Do you offer services and appointments on holidays?
A: We do not offer services on July 4th, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, or New Year's Day, as most stores are closed on these holidays. Additionally, we do not offer styling appointments on Black Friday or Christmas Eve, as we've found that excessive crowds make for a less-than-enjoyable experience on these peak shopping days.

Q: What happens if I need to cancel?
A: Although we hope you'll keep your appointment, we understand that schedules sometimes change and necessitate a cancellation. If you need to cancel, please do so at least 48 hours in advance of scheduled appointment or private tour. Tours and appointments cancelled at least 48 hours in advance will be refunded in full.

For cancellations less than 48 hours before scheduled appointment, a $100 cancellation fee (deducted from your payment) will apply. For large groups, a $100 fee will apply to each cancelled tour.

Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice can also be rescheduled (subject to stylist availability). Gift certificates are non-refundable, but tours and services purchased with a gift certificate may be rescheduled for another date. Public tour tickets are non-refundable except in cases of company-initiated cancellation due to severe weather or other extenuating circumstances.

Q: What are your terms and conditions?
A: Although shopping is a much lower-risk activity than, say, bungee jumping or sky diving, New York City is a big place where just about anything could happen. For this reason, all persons engaging the services of
Seek New York LLC agree to our Terms & Conditions by purchasing any of the tours or personal shopping/styling appointments we offer. In some situations a signed waiver may also be required.


Shopping & Styling

Q: What kind of experience do you have?
A: Our affiliate stylists have years of experience in fashion design, television, theatre, opera, dance, and print; a strong working knowledge of stores and sources; and at least three years of residency in New York City. Most also have a degree in costume design, fashion design, or another related field. Please click here for more on our stylists.

Q: Do you do alterations?
A: No, we do not offer in-house alterations. However, we are happy to offer our advice on which alterations (if any) are necessary for the garments you choose, and recommend a tailor who can complete the work.

Q: How much time should I allow for my appointment?
A: We'll provide an estimate based on your initial consultation, but the amount of time you allow for your appointment is ultimately up to you. 3-4 hours is generally a good starting point, but if your project is more involved (prom dress shopping, complete wardrobe overhaul) it's best to allow extra time.

Q: When do I need to hire a stylist?
A: Our clients hire us for a variety of reasons. Some of these include weddings, proms, bar/bat mitzvahs, anniversaries, recitals, job interviews, graduations, dating, weight loss/gain, and pregnancy, as well as general wardrobe shopping. Hiring a stylist can be beneficial whether you're anticipating a special event or are simply interested in updating your look. We offer advance shopping and styling appointments, as well as same-day special event styling.

Q: What are the benefits of working with a stylist?
A: Despite old adages about "judging a book by its cover" or beauty being "in the eye of the beholder," the importance of physical appearance cannot be ignored. Whether you're looking for a new job, entering the dating market, launching a musical career, or running for P.T.A. president, the way you look will ultimately play a role in your success. By working with a Seek stylist, you'll receive friendly, professional advice, and collaborate to create a look that works for you.

Q: Can I bring my mom/boyfriend/best friend to my appointment?
A: Probably not. Our styling sessions are designed to provide one-on-one attention, and we find that appointments tend to be most productive without family and friends in tow. (For parties of two or more people, we suggest scheduling a private New York shopping tour or booking two stylists for a joint appointment.) We do make an exception for wedding and special event styling clients, since we realize that opinions from your bridal party are an important part of the process, and for styling clients under the age of 18.

Q: Can you provide a hair & makeup artist? What about a photographer?
A: We have reciprocal relationships with a network of highly qualified hair stylists, makeup artists, and photographers, many of whom offer an exclusive discount to Seek customers. We are happy to offer a referral to the provider best-suited to your needs and budget.

Q: What is the difference between a personal styling appointment and a private shopping tour?
A: Our New York shopping tours are an introduction to shopping in NYC, and are a popular option for visitors who want to see the city while checking out lots of different stores. They are ideal for anyone who wants to cover a lot of ground in a short period of time, and include the option of shopping for items other than clothing (such as home furnishings, fabrics, children's items, etc.) as well as sightseeing stops. While our private tours do include a customized itinerary, they do not include the detailed style questionnaire or pre-appointment analysis that comes with a styling appointment. Styling appointments tend to focus on one or two specific stores (and often with a specific goal in mind), with fitting appointments arranged in advance. In some cases, the stylist will also do some pre-shopping at stores to decide where a client's time will be best spent. Specialty services, such as a professional bra fitting, can also be arranged for styling clients.
